For project 3.2 I decided to design a sustainable light which didn't rely on energy, solar power or batteries. The alternative energy I choose to utilise was piezoelectricity.

Inspiration
Reading Curve magazine last week I came across this quote by Alan Kay from Xerox PARC. “The world is experiencing climate change, pandemics, dwindling natural resources etc.. there has never been a more important time for a reinvention of the fundamental design process” (from curve magazine, issue 28)
The current increase of environmental awareness can often feel like a burden when designing product. However after considering how I want to make my mark on this world, not just in my work but also though my lifestyle, I came to realise that all product should already be sustainable, designed with the environment in mind. I realised that instead of being hindered by the environment I should feel inspired to allow man-kind to live in harmony with the world.

Project 1 - Portable Shelter for Disaster Relief
A portable shelter is to be designed for people affected by natural disasters such as earthquakes, cyclones or bushfires. The product should provide immediate relief for those affected. It is to be a durable and light weight unit that can be easily transported and must be simple to use. Initial ideas are to be explored though concept sketching and then a computer model is to be produced. The final design is to be presented though high quality renders.
